Privacy and Publicness

Privacy and Publicness

The ongoing digitalisation of our world poses many questions to society: What is still considered private, what should be public? Both, the Private and the Public change immensely, driven by the Internet's ubiquitous presence. Does it leave any room for private information at all?
Which information should stay private and how can we make sure it does? Or do we maybe have to challenge our understanding of private and public and thus create new definitions for these terms. Are their differences blurring?

Goal of the Initiative

The Co:llaboratory's fourth initiative wants to develop technology assessments and options for actions, in order to enrich the public discussion and show opportunities of a digital future.
An important side-effect of our work should be that we better understand the roles and responsibilities of the state, the economy and the user. This goal was tackled by creating scenarios that determine crucial influences for society's development and discuss the implications.
From April till September 2011, the initiative's experts from academia, civil society and industry, faced the above-mentioned questions in five workshops in Berlin. Their final report will be published soon.
