Human Rights and Internet – Access, Freedom and Control

From January through March 2012 the fifth initiative is dealing with the topic of human rights and the Internet. For this purpose, we would like to bring together experts from science, civil society and the private sector with the aim of making constructive contribution to the discourse through an anticipatory interdisciplinary discussion.
During these three months, a group of 30 experts should conduct analyses and consolidate findings from a technical debate in order to be able to discuss the interim results with representatives from politics, administration and the general public at the end of March 2012. How can the classic conceptions of human rights be transferred to the Internet? Can human rights serve as a basis for global polycentric (Internet) governance structures? What contribution can the Internet make for the implementation of human rights?
